Young entertainer makes his mark on YouTube
A young talent from Esther Park, Malcome Legare, better known as Juvie, wants to help his peers with his entrepreneurial expertise.
A young man from Esther Park who is building himself as a brand in the entertainment industry wants to provide jobs and encourage entrepreneurship in Kempton Park.Malcome Legare, better known by his stage name Juvie, has lived in Kempton Park for most of his life. He started school in the South at a school called Town View Primary School. He then moved to Edleen Primary School and completed his matric at Sir Pierre Van Ryneveld High School.
The East London-born star studied film and television at Tshwane University of Technology. He was inspired by his cousin, who works as a crew member for Rhythm City.
“After graduating I realised how hard it is to get employment in the career field I’m in, and I saw many of my classmates also struggling, which increases the level of unemployment in the country,” said Legare.
Legare started an initiative among his peers called the New Wave Movement, which focuses on the film and television production industry. He launched his own reality show, Juvie’s Journey, on YouTube and has had many views on his first few episodes.
He wishes to one day open his own production company so he can provide employment for his fellow graduates as well as those who graduated after him.
“I am currently looking for sponsorships and partnerships because I see that my reality show is doing quite well for a start, and it has the potential to do even better with the right funding,” said Legare.
“I used to do promotions after graduating. I worked for a popular news network, but it shut down while I was there and left me unemployed. I started applying for jobs, but I was unsuccessful, which drove me to do my own thing.”
Although Legare can be seen in action in front of the camera on his reality show, he also does a lot behind the scenes, thanks to his experience in film and television. He directs, produces and comes up with content for the show.
“People think that being in the media is all glitz and glamour, but I see a lot of people struggling out there, which is why I do my own thing,” he said.
“I am looking for sponsors and/or partnerships. I’m looking for clothing brands, local artists to feature them on my show, small businesses and anyone who can help the show benefit and also benefit themselves.”
Legare works closely with his camera operator and video editor, Sylvester Mpashe.
