#TuesdayTrivia wins big at Caxton Awards
The quiz was named joint-winner from finalists across the country.
We know you love #TuesdayTrivia, but so did a panel of judges in the national Caxton Excellence Awards.
The Kempton Park news quiz was named joint-winner in the Best Original Idea or Innovation category during a gala dinner at the Maslow Hotel in Pretoria on Thursday evening.
“Tuesday Trivia has become a regular that readers look forward to and is an excellent way of making readers interact from electronic devices with the printed product,” MC of the evening Lebogang Majabula Mokoena recalled the judges’ response.
The quiz was created by Express journalist Paula-Ann Smit last year, in a hope to grow the newspaper’s Instagram following and to interact with followers.
“Our followers grew from 99 to a current 890,” Smit said. “I saw how much people enjoyed the quiz, and the decision was made to move it to our online platform.”
The other winner in this category was Zululand Observer’s ‘Soccer Shoot-Out’ by Ronelle Ramsamy, Dave Savides and Theresa Botha. Readers of the Empangeni newspaper in KwaZulu-Natal had to collect eight player profile cards to enter a competition.
So, without further ado, our local award-winning news quiz:
