Attend PG_13 performance to help raise funds

Locals can treat themselves to a performance at 2pm on April 28 at the Two Oceans Restaurant on the corner of De Wiekus and Modderfontein roads.

When Kempton Park-based band PG_13 takes to the stage, audiences are sure to be enticed by their poetry-infused rhythmical music.

Locals can treat themselves to a performance at 2pm on April 28 at the Two Oceans Restaurant on the corner of De Wiekus and Modderfontein roads.

The band, which aspires to tell African tales through song and dance, recently released their first extended-play. Hekaya, Swahili for ‘legends’ and ‘fables’, captures the transfer of knowledge from one generation to the next, and a promise that stories from the past will continue to be told.

PG_13 now hopes to take Hekaya on the road, specifically to the Grahamstown National Arts Festival and the Cape Fringe Festival in August, where they were invited to perform in June and August respectively.

In order to do so, the band needs to raise around R20 000 for travel and accommodation costs, as the festivals do not cover this expense.

They’ve, therefore, joined forces with Food4Soul, who hosts spoken word sessions in order to collect donations for a charity at the Two Oceans Restaurant. Food and drinks will be sold at the venue. The admission fee to the performance is any donation that could help the band go on tours, such as financial contributions, guitar strings or publicity.
