Tswelopele Performing Artists honour legendary Oupa Malatjie

Shows will take from May 29 to June 1 at TX theatre at Moses Molelekwa Art centre.

On May 6 Tswelopele Performing Artists staged a preview play at Moses Molelekwa Art centre in honour of the legendary Tembisa artist.

Speaking on behalf of the cast Tesh Mashedi said Fornication is a play written and directed by Oupa China Malatjie and they will be staging it to bid farewell as he retires in the art industry.

“Today we did our first run for the audience and I believe the audience received it very well.

“We got our positive critics and now we will go back to rehearsal room and tighten the show,” Mashedi.

He said with the first run they wanted to see if the audience will identify with the story since the play deals with a sensitive issue.

Tswelopele Performing Artists to perform a tense play about family problems.

Mashedi said the community needs to support the show because the creator of the piece Oupa China Malatjie has been pivotal in developing arts in Tembisa.

“Many have seen Malatjie perform on various stages and some may have seen him on TV.

“Malatjie has contributed a lot in the careers of different Tembisa actors whom we see on TV today,” Mashedi explained.

Malatjie bows out due to a rare disease that left him wheel chair bound and with a loss of speech.

He said Tembisa residents need to celebrate Malatjie’s life by attending the shows from May 29 to June 1 at the TX theatre at Moses Molelekwa Art centre.

Tswelopele Performing Artists will stage two shows per day, one is a 3pm show and the other a 6pm show.
