Your child will enjoy this holiday fun

Children are natural gardeners. They are curious, experimental, creative and caring, and learn best through play.

A holiday programme with a difference, to be presented at Hamba Nawe in Pomona during the school holidays, will teach children to become an eco-warrior.

The programme is designed to create a love for learning, exploration and imagination.

The environment encourages independence and gives children the opportunity for engaging activities and teaches them the fascinating world of gardening, the environment and the journey of food from the ground to the table.

“Children are natural gardeners. They are curious, experimental, creative and caring, and learn best through play,” said Lana Marais and Marcia Bêco, the two women behind the initiative.

“Lana and myself have a great passion for children and we are also involved with Helpende Hand in Kempton Park. We saw the need to keep our children occupied in a healthy and safe environment. Our goal is to teach them some life skills they can use in the future and to try and disconnect them from technology for a while each day so they can play, learn and have fun as children should,” Bêco added.

“At a time when many children are completely disconnected and unaware of their environment, we aim to create a sense of wonder and awe about food, environment and healthy eating. It is a practical, fun, social, educational and trust-building programme that explores a world that is not focused on the traditional curriculum.”

For parents, it’s a great way to keep children entertained with outdoor activities that will excite them about growing and eating fresh food.

The programme will take place from June 17-28 and costs R500 a week, including lunch and refreshments.

To book call Lana on 082 924 6430 or Marcia on 084 507 4546.
