Masquerade party hosted on Khumalo Street
GTE hosts masquerade party in Ivory Park Ext 13.
On June 8, Glen Talane (GT) Events hosted the second annual All Black Masquerade Street Bash Edition in Khumalo Street, Ivory Park, Extension 13.
“The first edition was hosted in Emoyeni section, Tembisa, because that is where I am well known,” said Glen Talane, founder of GT Events and event organiser.
The event featured Basil live on stage. The event aimed at creating jobs and entertaining a mask on your faces.
“The aim is to have fun without knowing who is next to you and not being able to worry who might see you,” said Talane.
“I wanted to bring something different to the neighbourhood where I grew up because I have been coordinating events for MaAfrika. In March, I coordinated Kabza De Small One Man Show. The last time I also hosted was on my 21st birthday in 2012,” explained Talane.
The event also gave locals the opportunity to earn an income at the expense of the event. Ten locals were hired as car guards and five out of the 10 were hired as runners, picking up the bottles and cans throughout the event.
Talane also said each of the 10 individuals received R300, made possible by Taxify and BLux Mobile Bar, one of the sponsors of the event.
“We also identified a soccer team that has approached us for sponsorship. We are going to donate R2 000 to them for soccer kits and necessary equipment,” added Talane.
“Schweppes provided cooldrinks and branding. BLux Mobile Bar came through with a mobile bar and were responsible for distribution of drinks all night,” said Talane.
Bontle Mathibedi, managing director of BLux, said it is their first time in Ivory Park and they had a lot of fun with the people of Ivory Park at the party.
“The most exciting thing about events like this is that we always know what to bring, they always say ‘a party without gin isn’t a party’, and without gin and champagne people always leave the party,” said Mathibedi.
Talane added that for safety the Ivory Park SAPS and the Ivory Park Taxi Association Patrol Squad agreed to patrol the streets.
“We also thank Taxify for sponsoring about 65 cars for free transportation for ladies to a distance of 25km,” said Talane.
