Dynamic Ivory Park hip-hop trio is on their own wave
3plug, a trio which compromises three young males, hopes to reach the hearts of their fans and overcome obstacles through their new single, Vanessa.
South African hip-hop trio 3Plug, from Ivory Park, hopes to become a force to be reckoned with after the release of their new single, titled Vanessa.
Xolile ‘Blade X’ Mahlangu, Sifiso ‘Fistola’ Mnyimbane and Sizwe ‘NeroMan’ Ngubeni make up 3Plug, all born and raised in Ivory Park. The three friends explain the hardships of being a musician in a disadvantaged neigbourhood like Ivory Park as a learning curve.
Blade X said the lack of resources and information in Ivory Park is more of a learning curve instead of a setback because as an individual you know the amount of work you have to put in for your music to be played on the radio.
“It taught us to get out of our comfort zones and strive for the best in everything we do because we have no choice but to bring our A game,” said Blade X.
Over the years, the trio started to explore other elements of music. They realised they are not just rappers, they have other hidden talents as well, such as singing, producing and performing.
Fistola believes their rapid growth was due to their versatility.
“Although we have our own solo projects and brands, being adaptive of other music elements saw us collaborate with the likes of DJ Thakzin, Kreazoe Musik and Die Mondez. This definitely show that we are moving in the right direction,” said Fistola.
3plug was formed in 2013. Their recently released single, Vanessa, is a trap song depicting a young man who has realised his life is not going as he planned and embarks on a journey to look for his soul mate, who will make him whole again.
NeroMan said their music is inspired by real-life situations, that is why people relate to their music.
“My advice to all up-and-coming artists would be to identify what makes them unique and work on that because the game is too wide to copy what others are doing. Find what makes you tick and keep that. Never give up on your dreams because of your background, it always gets worse before it gets better,” said NeroMan.
