New one-man comedy show takes a look at hairy things

The unusual but hilarious comedy show, A Hair Thingy, unravels at Carnival City’s Mardi Gras Theatre on October 27.
The struggles of hair, as told by Rudy Bessit, are portrayed in this English and Afrikaans coloured “vernacular” one-man comedy show, where the main character, Aunty B, speaks of the struggles she (and so many other coloured families) experience daily with hair.
Aunty B is a coloured woman with straight hair and is married to Daniel, a coloured man with curly hair. Their two daughters, Spungee and Priscilla, both have curly hair like their father and Aunty B is having a tough time dealing with it.
Highlighting the everyday challenges, characteristics and humour that are the order of the day in most coloured households, emphasis is placed on hair in this show as this is the one thing a majority of coloured households always end up discussing and laughing about.
The underlying message of this show is one which encourages self love, acceptance of oneself and others just the way they are, and embracing one’s own unique characteristics and features as well as those of others.
