Tembisa’s Masterpiece works with national artists

Thabang Kganakga, also known as Masterpiece, is a young artist from Tembisa.

He attended school in Edleen Primary School then moved to Rhodesfield Technical High School, where he completed his matric in 2013.

From a young age, Masterpiece was fascinated by the entertainment industry and was very fond of anything related to music, fashion, art and dance. He started off as a member of SteezFresh (a fashion group from Tembisa) which hosted events in Tembisa.

One day, the group decided to make Masterpiece an MC for their ‘Winter Warm Up Steeze’ event and that was when his love for being behind the mic started.

He has been an MC for events since 2013. Little did he know that there was more to come from that. In 2018, he met up with Leehleza the Entertainer who convinced him that he had the potential to make great music. After some time, Masterpiece gave in and went to the studio with Leehleza and the piano king Kabza De Small. That is when Thul’ubheke was made, and the response has been amazing.

Masterpiece said the love for being a vocalist grew and his work ethic started attracting many big names in the industry.

“Soon after that, I met up with Ezra Mlotshwa who introduced me to Shuffle Musiq from Team Mosha and we created a song called Tanqueray. This song caught flames and it became my hit single, which currently sits on 165 000 views on YouTube,” said Masterpiece.

The year 2019 seemed to be the year of growth for the musician.

“I also teamed up with Vincent Nobhela and Kgopotso Mmutlane (DJ Coach Tsekeleke) from the FBK crew ( Forex Broker Killers). Nobhela became my manager and DJ Coach became the DJ behind my performances,” said Masterpiece.

Together, they climbed to greater heights and met internationally renowned music producer DJ Maphorisa of Blaqboy Entertainment.

“DJ Maphorisa was pleased with us and invited us to the studio and Remix by Kabza Da Small featuring DJ Maphorisa and Masterpiece was created.”

“The response was great and this showed immense growth for me as an artist. This feature gave birth to other features from the likes of Stokie, Mas Musiq and Kaygee The Vibe to name a few,” said Masterpiece.

DJ Maphorisa has a number of well-known artists under his label, Blaqboy Music, including Faith Nketsi, Mlindo The Vocalist, Sha Sha, and even Masterpiece, who considers this a career milestone since DJ Maphorisa is considered one of the best producers in South Africa; having worked with the likes of Drake, Wizkid, Burna Boy and many more global artists.

Masterpiece is planning to drop his first EP titled Yanos Vocal Killer soon.
