WATCH: 15-year-old jazz musician wants to perform on the big stages
Young artist dreams of becoming a pro.
Young jazz maestro Sibusiso Shabalala (15) intends to make a name for himself in the music industry.
This youngster, who is passionate about music, especially jazz, says he has been making music since he was a baby still in nappies.
“Growing up, all I could hear was music. I fell in love with music from an early age,” Shabalala said.
He said he can play any musical instrument, but his first love will always be guitar and jazz.
“I am into other genres where I play other instruments such as jemba (African drum), but my first love is jazz.
“My love for jazz was inspired by veteran jazz artists such as Oliver Mtukudzi, Sipho Gumede and many other local jazz geniuses,” he said.
Shabalala is also one of the founding members of an a cappella group called Unique Souls, based in Kalambazo Section.
The group’s style is different from most bands as most youngsters’ bands are gospel and soul.
“My dream is to record my own music and turn professional. I have been doing gigs, but now need to take my music to the world. I am sure people will love and enjoy it,” he said.
