Nominate your favourite arts for the 2020 MKHMAs

Kwaito and house nominations now open.

Nominations are now open for the 2020 Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards (MKHMAs).

According to Sibusiso Ketwa, the awards’ marketing manager, the nominations will close on March 31.

Last year this township was well represented at these annual awards.

Tembisa-based kwaito artists S’fiso Maseko aka Feestoz, Mrijo, Stena Skelem and self-made dancers were some of the artists that made it to the grand finale hosted at Carnival City.

DJ Sbu hosted last year’s awards ceremony.

“After two years at Carnival City, the 2020 MKHMAs move to Sun City, which signals a bigger and better instalment of the awards. In celebrating and

honouring Mzansi’s women, the awards are scheduled to take place in August during Women’s Month,” said Ketwa.

The inaugural MKHMAs, which took place on November 12, 2016, at the Walter Sisulu Square in Soweto, became the first awards to exclusively recognise kwaito and house music genres.

With the popularity of the awards, the category for Gqom music was introduced and this year the category for amapiano has been added to the mix.

The public and industry are encouraged to nominate artists in any of the categories.

“Whether it is acknowledging greats of the past or discovering the talent of the future, the MKHMAs continue to hold an important place on the South African music calendar,” said MKHMA CEO Perfecta Malinga.
