Thembisa Kasie Music fest is on the cards

Plans for the Thembisa Kasie Music festival are in the works.

A first-of-its-kind Thembisa Kasie Music Festival organised by the Thembisa Music Association is in the pipeline and could give local musicians a platform to showcase their craft.

Organisers of this “strictly Thembisans only” gig want to turn this event into a monthly affair.

“We are looking at hosting and turning this event into a monthly festival, rather than to host it once a year. We believe that by hosting it on a monthly basis we would enable most, if not all, of our locally based musicians a platform to showcase their talents,” said Hendrew Druzza Ledwaba, a member of the Thembisa Music Association and one of the organisers of this music show.

He said to make this event a people’s affair, they have decided to engage with all local musicians at a plenary session to forge a way forward.

“We want to turn this into a truly community affair and this is the reason why we are calling upon all Thembisan performing artists to be part of our first plenary meeting.

“We don’t want to dictate things. We want to involve our performing artists and to give them a say on how best they think we should go about hosting this event,” said Ledwaba.

The first plenary meeting will be held on February 29 at 651 Sedibeng Section, 67 Titan Street.

The meeting starts at 11am.

“Thembisa and local artists will be our first priority. We will be conducting roadshows and workshops to empower local musicians to be street entrepreneurs by selling their own CDs, T-shirts and caps.

“We have made a deal with bigger music companies to help unearth hidden talent and nurture it,” he said.
