Three Sama nominations for Malumz on Decks
They received nominations for the Best Dance Album for Find Your Way released last year, Duo of the Year and Best Remix for the hit song Shayinumber.
Nominees for the South African Music Awards (Samas) were announced on July 9, with Kempton Park’s Malumz on Decks music duo, Oscar Nyathi and Mandla Mtshali, on the list.
The duo managed three award nominations in different categories.
They received nominations for the Best Dance Album for Find Your Way released last year, Duo of the Year and Best Remix for the hit song Shayinumber.
Fans do not get the chance to vote in all nominated categories as the panel will decide on the deserving artists to receive the awards.
The 26th Samas will air on Mzansi Magic channel 161 from August 3 to 7.
The awards will be showcased in four sessions, with the last episode as the grand finale.
Although Find Your Way was the duo’s final studio album, it certainly was not the end of their triumph.
Malumz found their unique sound with Find Your Way.

It has four songs that topped the South African music charts, including OthoritySA, MTV Base and Radiomonitor.
They are known for blending two dynamic genres, Afro-soul and indigenous house music, to construct a rare and distinctive sound.
“Being nominated is a great feeling. We never saw it coming, but we are thankful for all the nominations,” said the duo.
“The fans really appreciated this album and its distinctiveness. We gained more fans with this album. After Shayinumber, we can also say that Taba tsa hao with the legendary KB Mamosadi is really doing wonders.
“We received appeals from local DJs requesting to create remixes of the widely played Taba tsa hao song. We are releasing a remix extended-play (EP) early August. We worked with five producers all around Mzansi and one from Kenya.
“Creating a remix is a huge risk. It’s like art. Maybe our fans will like the Shayinumber remix, as it has been nominated for the Best Remix by Deep Sen, yet the original version was also nominated in the Samas last year for Song of the Year,” the duo said.
A win will be a huge bonus for the pair and even if they don’t take the awards, they both feel the nominations are a sign of their hard work being acknowledged.
“We aimed for one nomination and we received three. That’s not child’s play in the Mzansi music industry. It shows our hard work and that we are consist and relevant.”
The pair recently scored themselves a contract with Metro FM Get 2Gether Experience in May to play on their weekend’s live production.
“The virtual space has been cohesive with our genre. Audiences can plug in as the set-up does not require a hectic backline to get the sound out.
“The highlight is being able to reach large audiences.”
