Prince Marandela (21), popularly known as Diggy, is stringing words together to address the challenges of South Africa through his music.

The hip-hop artist has been in the music industry for the past five years.

“I’m from Thembisa and my surroundings has shaped my creative sense. My music talks about things happening in our daily lives, especially in the township like drugs and teenage pregnancy, poverty and unemployment.

“The journey of music started in 2007 and 2008 due to my late neighbour DJ Khomza, who would always practice his skills as DJ with DJ Shimza.

“I spent hours watching them. I fell in love with music and developed an interest in hip-hop via inspiration of Pro Kid, Romeo and Bow Wow.

“In high school I joined a group of friends and we started recording music. Feedback from our peers was good, which made me continue record more songs. I make trap music and also melodic rap.”

“I don’t usually plan a song. It depends on the kind of vibe I’m feeling on that particular day. The story behind the EP I’m working on is solely appreciating certain people who’ve managed to change my life in a positive way.

“I don’t have anyone I consider my mentor yet, but usually I seek for advice from my brother who signed under Ambituouz ent Ent ‘S villa’ and he usually guides me.”
