Local videographer makes moves behind the scenes

In an interview with Express, Matseke talked about his love for his work and the industry.

Local videographer Keough Matseke has proven through his career that individuals with talent and drive can become great in life.
In an interview with Express, Matseke talked about his love for his work and the industry.

“I love shooting. I believe everything is beautiful, it just depends on how you look at it.

“I chose this career because life is based on visuals. The first thing we do in the morning is open our eyes and store a lot of the things we see in our minds for viewing later. Much like videos, which work like memories. I’ve always been practical in nature. I believe in showing, not telling.

“Working with different artists got me to this point.”

The videographer owns his own company and worked with the likes of Jay Claude, Jimmy Wiz, DynastyFutureBetty, Colllegelive & Carvo Cardo, Ma-E and Papa Ghost.

“My favourite thing about shooting has to be colour-grading as colour creates the mood. It decides the feel of the video. My least favorite is sequencing. Laying out everything, scene for scene, is exhausting.

“I have made mistakes. I was once shooting a music video in our neighborhood and when I reviewed my work I realised my footage had a lot of ‘grain’ in the visuals. It made it unbearable to watch.

“I learnt more about aperture control and how much light to let into the camera. I learnt from that.

“It’s good to allow your subject to view the footage. It helps with angles to be visually appealing. I will reshoot if need be.

“When shooting a music video with a subject who is nervous can be addressed by allowing them to see the potential of the shot and by reassuring them. The subject needs to know what they’re doing is appealing. Verbal cues like ‘that looks amazing’ or ‘keep it up’ allow the subject to be more sure of themselves and their actions.

“My advice for anyone who wants to get involved in videography is to familiarise yourself with the equipment and video-making techniques,” said Matseke.
