Raw talent forges their incredible career on the stage
The local theatre-makers create shows in their backyards and sometimes use the Moses Molelekwa Art Centre for rehearsals.
Express met with youngsters working behind the scenes for a glimpse into the lives of these people who create on-stage magic.

“I remember in primary school during our annual fun days we had house clubs which included various activities. I was always the one entertaining the crowds,” said performer Linda Wa Ka Shabangu.
“The late Joe Mafela came to me one day and said I am a good performer. His words always stayed with me.
“In high school I started drama classes and was introduced to the Market Theatre, where I would go to watch shows. Every time I sat in the audience, it dawned on me that was where I belong – on stage.
“I have done both film and stage. If I have to choose, I would have to say it is the stage.”

The youngsters recently kicked off with rehearsals for a show called Black’s Don’t Cry written by Linda Wa Ka Shabangu and directed by Thabo Motshabi.
“I will be one of the actors in this production. I started acting on stage in 2009 in a production called Evil Runs by Steven Visser, which premiered at the National Arts Festival in the same year,” said Linda.
He was also mentored by Paul Grootboom in a production called Kudela Owayizo, which was staged at The State Theatre.
“I love this career because I get to be anybody I want to be. I have the skill to step away from myself and be someone else.”
