Police recover 39 stolen vehicles and arrest 73 suspects across Gauteng

Police Emergency Services comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 73 suspects, recovered 39 motor vehicles and 11 firearms between July 17 and 23.

Members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng, which led to 16 arrests for serious crimes including assault, possession of suspected stolen property, contempt of court, handling a firearm while under the influence of liquor, extortion and possession of house or vehicle breaking implements.

Officers recovered 39 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles with 11 arrests for the possession of these vehicles. 11 firearms were recovered, accompanied by one arrest.

In further policing, 45 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs. Heroine, dagga, cat (cocaine), mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.

Investigation continues in these cases.

The suspects will be appearing in the local magistrates’ courts across Gauteng.
