Muldersdrift murder leaves a void
Family and friends mourn the death of Virgil Pappas, a 40-year-old father and husband killed in an alleged armed robbery in Muldersdrift.
The killing of a 40-year-old businessman in Muldersdrift has sent shock waves through the community.
At two memorial services on Thursday 30 September, one in Noordheuwel and the other in Muldersdrift, friends and family paid their respects after crime had claimed the life of Virgil Pappas.
Pappas, a well-known figure in Muldersdrift, was shot in the back twice and left for dead at his home in the area.
A neighbour of Pappas, Charles Culbert came across his body in the early hours of Saturday morning 20 September.
“I heard gun shots and called a local security company and my pastor to accompany me to the house before making the discovery,” he says.
Those who committed the crime fled the scene.
According to Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini no arrests have been made.
“The suspects are still at large and we (the police) are appealing to the community to come forth with any information that can lead to their arrest,” he says.

Pappas’ name was added to a list of farm murders in the country, currently doing the rounds on social media.
Family and friends also created a facebook page titled In loving memory of Virgil Pappas the legend. Pappas leaves behind his wife and two daughters.
Messages of condolence, memories and photos have been pouring onto the page in remembrance of man described as caring, loving and good hearted.
