Fundraiser for a friend
Friends of a woman suffering from a rare type of leukaemia are taking hands to help raise R100 000 for a bone marrow transplant.
Friends and family of Daleen Myburgh took hands to help her fight cancer and raise funds for a life-saving transplant.
In 2013, Daleen was diagnosed with a rare type of blood cancer known as polycythemia vera for which she underwent chemotherapy treatment at the age of 42.
She never anticipated the chemo would aggravate her condition. In March she was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer. Doctors said she would not live beyond a year and a half unless she underwent a bone marrow transplant.
Her friends and family are adamant that giving up is not part of their vocabulary and have taken hands to help Daleen fight back by creating the Facebook page Our friend’s battle is our battle in her honour. They also are organising a fundraiser in aid of their beloved friend. All funds will go towards the transplant.
The community of Krugersdorp is invited to join them for a day of fun(d)raising at the NG Kerk Krugersdorp-Noord on 6 June with strong coffee, delicious cakes, live music by Andre Martinez and his students, stalls and much more from 9.30am to 5pm.
Entrance to the fundraising day is R20 per person and will go towards paying for Daleen’s transplant. On 29 May it was announced on the Facebook page that a suitable donor had been found – this is wonderful news considering that only one out of a registered 69 000 bone marrow donors in South Africa was a match.
Daleen is waiting to hear from the doctors what the next steps are regarding the life-saving procedure.
