The MYB will present a children’s ballet called The Pink Shoes that travels through Rome, Paris, London, Vienna, Hong Kong and Joburg, taking the audience on a dance all over the world.

In 2011 the MYB started as a platform for young girls from the age of four to start dancing.

“I had a dream to share my love of dancing with anyone who wanted to dance in a theatre,” said Carla Turner, founder, choreographer and artistic director of MYB. With no funding from sponsors, Carla paid for space at the church at 20 Lismore Street, Kenmare and the first audition was held.

MYB already won a National Eisteddfod gold award for their 2014 Oriental Enchantment performance.

Carla is proud to welcome 29 children from Reach for a Dream and Cradle of Hope to The Pink Shoes dress rehearsal for a backstage tour.

“It feels good to be able to give back to the community.”

Haleigh van Rooyen, a dancer at MYB for three years and the lead in The Pink Shoes, compliments ballet as a confidence builder.

“Ballet teaches you poise and grace, which you carry with you for the rest of your life,” she said.

MYB will have two shows this year at 11am and 1pm.

“We dedicate the performance to the late Madame Lorna Greeff, famous ballet mistress, and Robin Williams,” Carla explained.

“I am using a sound bite of him singing Figaro for the ballet scene in Rome.”
