More complaints surface about hospital

More allegations of hospital's poor service come to light.

Complaints about the service provided by nurses at Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital continue to pour in following the incident of a mother and her unborn baby passing away.

Danel Nel, mother of a two-year-old boy contacted the News to report about the alleged bad service she received last month when she took her child to hospital. The toddler had a very high fever.

“They told me they couldn’t help me right away and that I should put my child in cold water,” Nel explained.

She said while waiting in a queue with around 20 other patients, among whom were another mother with her baby, the dreadful process dragged on. Eventually both mothers decided to take their children elsewhere for treatment.

“It really is sad because you known they are not going to help you,” the worried mother said.

Nel recalled another incident earlier this year when she took her unconscious fiancé to the hospital. Hospital staff insisted she helped him out of the car herself.

“Please just get him out of the car,” she recalled the nurses saying.

Fortunately a stranger in the parking lot assisted her.

Nel alleged the staff tend to chat and joke around more than they actually do their jobs.

An anonymous complainant also told the News a doctor at the casualty department had told her she had a miscarriage after she started bleeding in the seventh week of her pregnancy.

The woman did not believe the doctor and had to borrow money to visit a private doctor to confirm the miscarriage.

“Today my so-called miscarriage is seven months old.”

The News contacted Puseletso Mabidikame, the Yusuf Dadoo Communication Officer to ask if the hospital gives preference to young children and the elderly who are in desperate need of care.

“May you provide the details and the name of the patient so that we can provide information on what transpired during the consultation date?” Mabidikame replied.
