Four-hundred-and-forty-seven suspects were arrested in a week by the West Rand Cluster Police, most of them for serious crimes.
These crimes ranged from robberies, possession of drugs and unlicensed forearms, theft, possession of gold-bearing material, assault and domestic violence to drunk driving, rape, domestic violence and murder. Only some of the suspects were arrested for minor offences such as shoplifting or trespassing.
“All 13 police stations within the West Rand Cluster held various crime prevention operations in the period from 23 to 29 May,” said police spokesperson, Constable Lucky Matome.
Matome said that a handful of juveniles were among the people “that were nabbed by our men and women in blue.”
The suspects were expected to appear before courts all over the West Rand before Monday, 30 May.
The Cluster Commander, Major-General Anna Mateisi, thanked all role-players who took part in the operations within the cluster.
“Without all of the members, these operations wouldn’t be as successful as they are,” she said.
