The Mogale City Local Municipality, in conjunction with its strategic partners, the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform and VPK Business Venture, hosted a West Rand District Municipality Cooperatives certification ceremony recently.
This comes as a result of the Cooperative Support Programme, which was established in order to develop and implement a support programme for individuals who form part of the cooperatives existing in the local municipality. Their goal is to grow sustainable cooperatives, create job opportunities and improve their livelihood.
A skills audit of the cooperatives in the area was done to identify what skills are present and what skills are lacking. Training was then implemented to bridge the skills gap.
Those who were able to complete their training were awarded their certification on last Wednesday.
“We are very pleased that we are here to celebrate the educational achievement of our people. What is key is that as cooperatives we should be able to assist our government in the fight against unemployment, poverty and inequality. It is therefore upon us to make sure that we implement what we got certificates for,” Linda Nxumalo, from the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said.
