As he wraps up his final term, Mogale City Municipality’s Executive Mayor, Councillor Koketso Calvin Seerane hosted a meet and greet session with the beneficiaries of the Corporate Social Responsibility Fund.
The fund gets its capital from a levy of one per cent of the tender value on all non-Mogale City based businesses. This money goes into a kitty and is then used to meet the needs and requirements that are not based on service delivery.
The many beneficiaries of the fund include Queens High School, which will receive R900 000 from the fund to cover the boarding-school costs of five pupils, making it possible for them to continue with their cricket training.
Another beneficiary of the fund is Munsieville resident Simon Makgobela, who lost his legs in a train accident a few years ago. Two years ago he started training as a para-cyclist, and he represented South Africa in the UCI Para-cycling Road World Cups in Italy and Switzerland last year. He received funds for a wheelchair, and a para-cycle.
The function room was filled with grateful recipients who stressed the fact that they hope that Mayor Seerane’s replacement will be half the man that he is, and that they are grateful for everything that he has done.
