Mogale City responds to petition

AfriForum has launched a petition with regard to the problematic Mogale City accounts, and Mogale City has finally responded.

After receiving complaints from the public with regard to their Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM) water and electricity bills, AfriForum decided to launch a petition.

On 10 July, the News published an article about AfriForum inviting the community to share their problems with them, which will enable the civil rights group to determine an appropriate plan of action to have the issues resolved.

The News was finally able to get in touch with MCLM and their spokesperson, Nkosana Zali, who had the following to say: “The municipality receives queries on bills received by ratepayers and deals with each query on its merit. We have worked hard to improve and reduce the number of billing queries since introduction of our new system and we are confident that we have gotten beyond most teething problems.

“The municipality is willing to engage residents individually as we have been doing with their billing queries and will certainly welcome and address any NGO or structure that wants to raise this matter with us.”
