Local resident Roger Weber is at his wits’ end, as the acacia trees on the pavement outside his house continue to damage his property.
The last time these trees were trimmed by the Parks Department was in 2010.
In October 2015, he first attempted to get in touch with Mogale City’s Parks Department, and after being ignored and passed on from one person to the next, he was finally told that the problem would be dealt with in June this year.
June has long come and gone, and he is still fighting a losing battle with the Parks Department.
The size of the trees, and their density, has made soil erosion a huge concern. Roger also has to continually trim the branches, as they interfere with his electric fence. His house’s gutters have to be cleaned on a weekly basis to prevent them blocking up with leaves shed by the trees. If left untended, the blockages lead to rain water leaking into the house.
The dense shade cast by the trees is promoting the growth of moss and algae on the walls. His pool pump also needs to be cleaned on a daily basis to cope with the amount of leaves and flowers dropping from the trees.
The News has contacted the Parks Department, which has said that they will send someone to inspect the area, and (hopefully) cut down the trees.
