Mogale City Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Councillor Koketso Calvin Seerane, recently convened a massive event in a bid to say ‘thank you’ to the churches in the area, and awarded a number of certificates to leaders of faith-based organisations.
Councillor Seerane, who is now serving the last days of his two successful terms in office as the Executive Mayor of the City and the political head of the ruling ANC party in the municipality, received a standing ovation when he addressed the congregation and community members.
The event was held at the City’s Centenary Hall and attracted political A-listers and more than 1 000 congregants from churches across the West Rand. The event also saw church leaders praying for the West Rand District Municipality and Mogale City mayoral candidates, Boyce Maneli and Peace Mabe.
Councillor Seerane has in the past ten years created an environment in which churches can thrive and be part of his work and leadership in all respects. This relationship has seen the resuscitation of the West Rand Moral Regeneration group, a networking platform that facilitates the combating of moral degeneration.
Addressing the audience, Councillor Seerane said, “I’m humbled to be part of this huge family that has taken it upon themselves to work with me throughout my tenure as the executive mayor of this beautiful city. I received huge support from churches and pastors and I would like to thank you for your support and for working with me.
“I want to add that the support that I received from you should also be given to the incoming mayor, as well as the new councillors and officials. We’ve come a long way, and although in some instances there were times when things were not going according to our plans, we managed to get things in order without any hindrance.”
The occasion was celebrated in dance and song with churches and ‘clap and tap’ choirs’ performing throughout the day. Pastor Daniel Mogano of Lighthouse Ministries prayed for the mayoral candidates.
Councillors Maneli and Mabe addressed the audience, and agreed that “The West Rand deserves better and they will work with the community for the betterment of the West Rand”.
Councillor Seerane awarded certificates of recognition to all the pastors in the West Rand for uniting the churches in the area.
