Mogale City warns against number plate trend

Mogale City’s Traffic Department would like to warn motorists against driving vehicles with one or more number plates missing.

Mogale City Traffic’s spokesperson, Papi Motaung told the News they are aware of a growing trend among the youth in and around Mogale City of not affixing a front number plate on to their motor vehicles, but this is an offence.

He said his team noticed this trend among drivers of VW Polos and Golfs, and minibuses. “Regulation 35(5) of the National Road Traffic Act states very clearly that no one shall operate a motor vehicle on a public road without legal number plates affixed on the rear and front of the motor vehicle,” Papi told the News.

Mogale City Traffic warns motorists that they will hand out fines of R1 000 for each number plate not affixed to a motor vehicle.

“The Traffic Department of Mogale City has said it before and we are going to say it again – we are going to do our job of upholding the law, without fear or favour, and we are not going to tolerate unlawfulness.

We will charge those who commit offences and if need be, we will arrest those who ignore our call and fines,” Papi told the News.
