‘Poephol’ policeman parks in disabled parking
He parked there despite the fact that there were open parking spaces next to the disabled parking.
Over the past few months, various community members have sent the News pictures of police officers parking in disabled parking spaces at shopping malls.
The most recent occasion was Friday, 9 June when a police officer who is believed to be from the Carletonville Cluster Police parked in a disabled parking at a mall in Krugersdorp.
An infuriated member of the community, who asked to remain anonymous to avoid clashing with the police, spotted the policeman who parked in the spot.
She noticed that neither the van’s sirens nor its lights were on and the policeman was “definitely not disabled”.
He parked there despite the fact that there were open parking spaces next to the disabled parking. The vehicle was allegedly parked there for 30 to 45 minutes.

No-one approached the policeman when he returned to the vehicle. He was in full police uniform at that time.
Because the vehicle was marked with Carletonville Cluster Police emblems, the complainant said that it was unlikely that the policeman was on call.
Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the West Rand Cluster Police said that the police regard the parking of police vehicles in parking bays specifically earmarked for disabled motorists as a serious offence.
“The necessary departmental steps will be instituted against the member(s) involved,” said Ernst.
