Mogale City said its finances keep imporving
The municipality strives to balance spending with the revenue available.
During the 12th ordinary council meeting at Mogale City Local Municipality, the Executive Mayor, Naga Patrick Lipudi stated that the financial position of the municipality keeps on improving.
The collection rate of the billed amount improved from 92 per cent to 99 per cent.
The municipality strives to balance spending with the revenue available, with expenditure making up 33 per cent of the total approved budget and 90 per cent of the pro rata budget, whilst revenue makes up 34 per cent of the total approved budget and 83 per cent of the pro rata budget. The municipality also spends its grants from the national and provincial government as well as state agencies reasonably well. This is demonstrated by the fact that the municipality is not on the list of municipalities that owe money to water utilities of the National Department of Water and Sanitation, in this case, Rand Water. The municipality does not owe Eskom anything either.

The municipality is pleased with the fact that businesses in the city as well as the areas of Azaadville, Krugersdorp and the agricultural holdings have kept to their payment obligations for services received.
There will be focused intervention for revenue collection in areas that are not performing optimally. This effort will be balanced with ensuring that the indigent roll is updated accordingly so that the ability to collect is not distorted. The Water and Sanitation division is currently conducting a water meter audit to detect illegal connections, meters that have been tampered with, and faulty meters, with specific focus on areas that have prepaid water meters.
There will be penalties imposed on illegal connections as per the applicable council policies and by-laws.
The municipality also took a decision to extend to 30 June 2018 the period in which the incentive on the settlement of accounts by which all debtors or consumers who settle their accounts within twelve months will have interest on their accounts written off will remain in force
The rationale behind the decision was to encourage customers with outstanding balances to settle and maintain their current accounts.
