Man assaulted with pick handle lives to tell his story

He crawled to a nearby house to seek help.

A man was abducted and severely assaulted with a pick handle in Swanieville earlier this month, after suspects tricked him into believing that they were looking for his friend.

The man said four men woke him and told him that they were looking for stolen property his friend allegedly took. They asked him to show them where he lived.

He complied with their request, but instead of going to his friend’s place, they took him to a house in Block 9, Swanieville, where they assaulted him using a pick handle. He was later taken to an open field in Mayibuye section, where he was left bleeding.

He crawled to a nearby house to seek help and was taken to hospital in a serious condition. He was discharged soon after and went to the police station to lay a charge of kidnapping.

A case docket of kidnapping was opened at Kagiso Police Station and an investigation was launched. A joint intelligence-driven operation cornered one of the suspects and managed to arrest him. His three accomplices are still at large.

The suspect was set to appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court this morning, 29 January.
