Cyclist killed – suspect arrested

A case of homicide was opened and Warrant Officer Smit immediately commenced with the investigation.

Local police have managed to trace and arrest the suspect they have been looking for since Saturday, 24 February, after he/ she allegedly failed to stop after hitting a cyclist who was warming up for the Berge en Dale race.

A statement from Warrant Officer Masedi, the Muldersdrift Police spokesperson, advised that the victim was taken from the scene on Hendrik Potgieter Road to a local hospital, where he was certified dead.

A case of homicide was opened and Warrant Officer Smit immediately commenced with the investigation.

“The story was published and the community came on board. Due to the community’s involvement, the suspect was arrested on Thursday, 1 March,” he said in the statement.

Muldersdrift acting station commander Captain Phiri has applauded the community for its active participation in the arrest of the suspect.
