Police pup catches drug suspect

The West Rand K-9 unit arrested a suspect for possession of drugs recently with the help of their fellow four-legged ‘police officers’.
The incident happened in Krugersdorp when police officers spotted a suspicious man walking with a bag in his hand. The four officers – Warrant Officers Brett Bushell and Bennie Wiese, and Sergeants Stefan Rohloff and Christel Harmse started chasing the suspect who tried to flee when after he was stopped. West Rand Flying Squad spokesperson, Karen du Plessis reported that they eventually caught him and searched his bag, recovering ten ziplock bags containing crystal meth and five ziplock bags containing cat. The estimated street value of the drugs was R4 800. The suspect was arrested on the scene and taken into custody.

“It hasn’t yet been established where the suspect is from, or where he was taking the drugs to, so our investigations continue,” said Du Plessis.
“Members of the community are advised not to take part in dealing with drugs. If they are suspicious of any drug activities taking place, they need to report to the nearest police station immediately. They also need to take note that drugs are the source of many other crimes that are committed, like house robberies, armed robberies, domestic violence and many more, because the user/ criminal is looking for a quick fix.”
