Specialised police team deployed to the West Rand

The National Intervention Unit has deployed an operational team to ensure stability in the West Rand Cluster, focusing mainly on the Krugersdorp and Kagiso policing precincts.

This deployment specifically targets these areas to address the issues which gave rise to the unrest situation and riots earlier this year.

This unit, comprising proactive and reactive teams, K9s, forensics, detectives and intelligence members, has a multi-dimensional approach towards policing. They are target-orientated and numerous successes have been achieved since their deployment.

In the past 48 hours, their achievements include the searching of 140 persons and vehicles. They arrested six persons on charges ranging from possession of a hijacked vehicle, dealing in and possession of drugs, and undocumented persons. They confiscated dagga, crystal meth and two vehicles.

The operational commander, Lieutenant Colonel Sam Khalishwayo, assured West Rand Cluster residents that they will continue with similar operations to secure and stabilise the area.
