Suspect arrested for presenting fake driver’s licence to traffic cops
"The card did not bear the signature of the relevant person and the picture was defaced."
A 41-year-old suspect was arrested in Swaneville by Mogale Traffic police on Sunday, 11 March at about 10.15am, for presenting fraudulent documents.
Captain Solomon Sibiya, spokesperson for the Kagiso Police, said traffic officials were on duty conducting a roadblock on the corner of Geba and Sandpiper Streets when they noticed a suspicious-looking motor vehicle with two occupants. The officers stopped the motor vehicle and asked for the driver’s license. The suspect (driver) produced an irrelevant document that did not even reflect the code of the motor vehicle he was driving.
“The card did not bear the signature of the relevant person and the picture was defaced,” said Sibiya. “The traffic officials were not convinced that the documents were acceptable.”
They arrested him and detained him at Kagiso Police Station.
A case docket of fraud and forgery was opened and the suspect formally charged. He will appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court soon.
