Man threatens to stab police officer – gets arrested

The man first picked up a rock and tried to hit the police officer with it.

A 29-year-old man was arrested on Saturday, 24 March at about 4pm, after he allegedly threatened to stab an on-duty police officer.

Captain Solomon Sibiya, spokesperson for the Kagiso Police Station, said their crime prevention members were patrolling the area when they noticed a group of men gambling next to the street.

“The police stopped their vehicle and approached the gamblers, most of whom then fled the scene. One man remained behind, allegedly picked up a stone, and tried to hit the police officer.

He then took out a knife and threatened to kill him,” said Sibiya.

The suspect was overpowered and arrested. He allegedly continued to threaten the police officer with stabbing, whenever and wherever they meet.

A case docket of assault on a police officer was opened and the suspect was formally charged. He has appeared briefly in court and was remanded in custody for a formal bail application.
