Kagiso hijackers meet the wrath of the community

Concerned residents noticed the struggle and charged at the four suspects.

Kagiso Police vowed to take drastic action against serious and violent crimes as well as contact crimes.

This was evident on Saturday, 15 September, when two alleged hijackers aged 22 and 23 were arrested in Tshepisong.

“Members of the community called our members to a crime scene at about 6am, following a citizen’s arrest of a hijacking suspect. Four assailants allegedly attacked a man and tried to hijack his company delivery vehicle. Residents noticed the struggle and charged at the four suspects,” Kagiso Police spokesperson, Captain Solomon Sibiya said in a media statement.

The suspects fled the scene on foot and left the delivery van behind. One of the suspects was arrested, and later pointed out one of his accomplices to the police. Both suspects were arrested and detained at the Kagiso Police Station.

“A case docket of hijacking was registered and the suspects were formally charged. They appeared briefly in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court and were remanded in custody for a formal bail application and further police investigations.”
