Car theft on the rise in Krugersdorp

Police are appealing to the public to be on the lookout for suspicious people as car theft is on the rise.

The Krugersdorp police would like to inform the community that motor vehicle theft is on the rise, especially in Krugersdorp CBD.

According to Sergeant Tshepiso Mashele, Spokesperson for the Krugersdorp Police, there has been an increase in bakkie theft.

She said the police want to urge motorists to physically check that their cars are properly locked.

“In most cases, people lock their cars using the remote and walk away from the vehicle. Thieves then use other devices that prevent the vehicle from locking,” she added.

They also asked owners to not leave any valuables on the seat where people walking past can see them.

“We are appealing to the community to assist with information that could lead to the arrest of suspects. Information regarding suspicious people and vehicles around the Krugersdorp area should be passed on to the police immediately. Make sure to provide important details such as where, when the incident occurred, and a detailed description.”
