Covid-19 vaccine: Number of fully vaccinated individuals in the West Rand nears the 200 000 mark

The Gauteng Provincial Government announced that it has reached another milestone of having administered 6 058 345 vaccines.

Of that figure, Gauteng Province has 3 076 767 people who are fully vaccinated, meaning they have taken both doses of the Pfizer vaccine or a single JnJ vaccine.

This milestone comes at the time when the province is taking the vaccination programme to retailers, shopping centres and other workplaces to widen access to vaccines by as many people as possible.

“The more people are vaccinated the better our chances of beating the anticipated fourth wave,” the Gauteng Provincial Government said.

Vaccination has been proven to be effective in minimising severe illness, hospitalisation and death in the event one contracts the coronavirus.

All persons who are 12 years and older are invited to visit their nearest vaccination site to get vaccinated. The public is further reminded that those who received a two-dose vaccine need to return for the second dose at 42 days.

All Gauteng sites both private and public accept walk-ins whether people are registered on the EVDS or not.

In the West Rand, which comprises Mogale City, Rand West City and Merafong City, 397 109 vaccinations have been administered, with 199 864 individuals fully vaccinated. According to the Gauteng Provincial Government, the population of the West Rand now stands at 686 355.

In the neighbouring City of Johannesburg, 2 654 362 vaccines have been administered with 1 318 601 individuals fully vaccinated. The population of Johannesburg stands at 4 360 765.

Vaccinations per age group in Gauteng:

• 18 to 34 years: Out of a population of 5 196 154, 688 668 individuals have been fully vaccinated
• 35 to 49 years: Out of a population of 13 441 983, 1 143 668 individuals have been fully vaccinated
• 50 to 59 years: Out of a population of 1 330 500, 590 696 individuals have been fully vaccinated
• 60+ years: Out of a population of 1 342 689, 653 393 individuals have been fully vaccinated
