Dry winter months and fire danger: Fire safety and awareness day held

The Muldersdrift Fire Protection Association (FPA) recently hosted a fire safety and awareness day for the community at Cradlestone Mall.

With the cold winter comes dry landscapes and also the potential for a devastating fire.

With the upcoming fire season in the back of our minds, the Muldersdrift Fire Protection Association (FPA) recently hosted a fire safety and awareness day for the community at Cradlestone Mall. The event highlighted the services provided by the FPA which is a registered association in terms of the National Veld and Forest Fire Act 101 of 1998.

On Saturday, June 4 various fire-fighting teams including the Mogale Fire Department and fire-fighting equipment suppliers joined forces to create awareness about the essential services that they provide.

Muldersdrift FPA chairperson Johan Schwartz with Maria Schwartz, Aletta du Preez and Councillor Shenan Cochrane.

To assist during the upcoming fire season the Muldersdrift FPA donated a bakkie-mounted fire-fighting unit to the Mogale Fire Department.

The hosts encouraged land owners in all rural areas to register their properties with their local FPA and ensure their fire-prevention plans were in place to prevent runaway veld fires. The FPA works with the fire department and assists at rural house fires when needed during extreme emergencies.

Mogale City Executive Mayor Councillor Tyrone Gray and his team also attended the event to show their support and appreciation to the teams providing life-saving fire-fighting services to the West Rand communities.
