Kromdraai community now connected to water line
A year-long project to connect the community of Portion 26 in Kromdraai as well as the Kromdraai clinic to the main water line is now complete.
Where the Kromdraai clinic used to rely on water from their Jojo tanks they now have running water in their taps.
MMC for Utilities Management and Services, Councillor Kagiso Lekagane explained to the News that the project to get the clinic and the community of Portion 26 in Kromdraai connected to the main water line already started in July 2021.
Construction for the project started in November 2021 and in March this year the MMC intervened after Sheryl Roberts, the clinic manager, phoned to check when they too would be connected.
The councillor said the pipes were already down and everyone was being connected, so they had to make sure the clinic was also connected before the project ended. Thus he lent his watchful eye and with the help of project manager Thembi Ngcukana they ensured that everyone was connected on time.

Robertson said they no longer needed to rely on water from the Jojo tanks, and the new permanent connection would ‘make things 100 per cent better’. It would also help to increase water pressure.
Communal water points were installed for the residents of the Kromdraai informal settlement on Portion 26. Jojo tanks around the community have been connected to the main line and the community can then make use of these points to fetch water.
When the News visited the site the last of the water meters were being installed before the project was completed.
