Load-shedding may lead to water disruptions for Mogale City
Residents are being urged to use water sparingly as load-shedding may affect Mogale City's water supply.
The Mogale City Local Municipality’s water services issued a warning to residents that load-shedding could impact the water supply in some parts of the City.
In the event of prolonged load-shedding the water storage reservoirs become depleted quickly because the pumps require electricity to replenish the system.
“This means we are unable to pump water back to the required levels when power is restored. Two of our bulk water suppliers, namely Johannesburg Water and Rand Water are experiencing similar challenges where prolonged load-shedding and water supply to Mogale City are concerned,” according to a statement issued by the municipality.
They therefore appeal to residents and businesses to use water sparingly, and restrict consumption during load-shedding, “To ensure that we can keep our taps running for longer”.
You can help ease water demand by:
• Taking short showers instead of a bath
• Using a bucket to wash cars, not a hosepipe
• Reusing water as much as possible
• Fixing water leaks and reporting burst pipes to the municipality immediately
• Minimising water evaporation by covering swimming pools when not in use
“Mogale City remains committed to providing sustainable and reliable water supply to all its consumers, but requires your assistance and support.”
