Planet Fitness members lace up their takkies to clean up in 47 communities on Mandela Day

From Hammanskraal to Sandton; Fourways to Mamelodi and Krugersdorp to Potchefstroom, local Planet Fitness staff changed their pace to clean up the streets on #MandelaDay.

Sweeping through 47 communities for 67 minutes, Planet Fitness members across the country laced up their takkies, changed pace and took to the streets this Mandela Day, geared to clean up 47 neighbourhoods, one of them Krugersdorp, in a workout that was a great reminder of moving together to make a difference.

Mike Hewan, Head of Marketing at Planet Fitness South Africa said no matter what the scale, every year on Mandela Day people are encouraged to get involved to “do what you can, with what you have, where you are” around the world for 67 minutes to mark the 67 years Mandela spent as a public servant.

With 47 fitness clubs around South Africa, our staff were all fired up and quick off the starting blocks to get out there and spend 67 minutes cleaning the streets to get their neighbourhoods back into shape.”

Mike added that Nelson Mandela was a great believer in exercise and had been quoted as saying that it is key not only to physical health but for peace of mind.

“Those words certainly resonate with us, and the feel-good factor of getting our teams together out in our communities to make a small difference to honour Mandela was invigorating; it got our hearts pumping and our minds thinking – such a positive moment for the people of our country to come together and help one another.”
