Lewisham company gives flats for the elderly a facelift for Mandela Day

Contribution will be a month-to-month effort.

Impisi Fibre, a Lewisham-based company, made a slightly belated contribution to Mandela Day on July 22 at the municipal flats for the elderly on Wagen Street.

Almost 40 employees from the company, who included everyone from the chief executive officer, Thom Sherrard, to technicians, joined in to neaten up the gardens at the flats. This came after Sherrard heard of the many challenges facing the elderly residents and the place they call home. Impisi Fibre also donated and installed two of the five geysers that were needed. During the day they did general garden work as well as giving the vegetable garden on the premises a much-needed boost.

They also donated brand-new gardening tools such as wheelbarrows, as well as warm gardening attire for the 77-year-old caretaker.

According to the company’s social community strategist Somila Nyamakazi their contribution will be a month-to-month effort since they have identified various needs they want to address.
