Municipality races to restore electricity in Silverfields

A vandalised mini substation has left parts of Silverfields without power as the municipality scrambles to restore electricity.

Mogale City Local Municipality’s (MCLM) Energy Services is aware of a power outage caused by vandalism of a mini substation at the corner of Gladwyn and Lovedale Avenue in Silverfields.

According to MCLM communications officer Refilwe Mahlangu, the outage has affected parts of the area, leaving some residents without electricity.

“The stock of the mini substation has been depleted due to the number of vandalism incidents and cable theft taking place. The municipality has urgently engaged with multiple suppliers to source a replacement. Once secured, the unit will be transported, delivered, installed and tested,” Mahlangu said.

She added, “Power restoration will take several hours; therefore, a completion time cannot be stated at this time.”

For safety reasons, residents are advised to treat all wiring as live and switch off appliances to avoid damage or injury when power is restored.
