Protests against illegal miners spread to Munsieville

Rocks are obstructing Robert Broom Drive towards Munsieville and Delporton. Sterkfontein Road is also affected and reports have been received of rocks being thrown – News journalist.

The community blocked entrances and exit routes to Munsieville as part of their protest against illegal miners on Friday morning, August 5.

News journalist Natasha Pretorius reported from the scene that, “There is a police presence and everything seems peaceful at this stage”.

Motorists have, however, been cautioned to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Rocks are obstructing Robert Broom Drive towards Munsieville and Delporton.

Sterkfontein Road is also affected and reports have been received of rocks being thrown. Protesters are also burning tyres.
