Krugersdorp Child Welfare blankets the community

Thanks to community support, Krugersdorp Child Welfare provided warmth to the needy this winter.

As winter bites down on the West Rand, Krugersdorp Child Welfare (KCW) has stepped up to bring much-needed warmth to vulnerable residents by distributing 105 blankets across several local communities.

Sharon Turner, vice chairperson for KCW, explained that they received a donation of R125 000 many years ago, which was invested and has accumulated R18 000 in interest.

“The conditions for this investment were that the money must be used to bless the poor and needy in the area, where they bought the blankets at a discounted price. We donated the blankets to areas such as Munsieville, Krugersdorp West, Burgershoop and Oaktree,” she added.

The integrated marketing manager at Aranda, Palesa Tladi, said they fully support the KCW’s blanket drive, as it aligns with their corporate social investment (CSI) objectives and values.

“Our commitment to community upliftment means we actively participate in initiatives that address real and immediate needs, particularly for vulnerable groups. As part of our broader CSI portfolio, this campaign reflects our dedication to fostering dignity, care, and hope within our communities,” she added.

She said donations of beautifully homemade blankets from church groups in the Krugersdorp area were also made.

“The need for blankets never ends, and we are so grateful for those who make them so diligently and also those who provide money to buy extra blankets. Warmth is such an essential need, especially in this freezing weather, and the gratitude is very evident in every recipient. It’s heart-wrenching to be there and see the tremendous desperate need of people living in poverty on the West Rand,” Sharon said.
