Losing your marriage even before it starts

Thabile Mange from Kagiso writes:

Author and motivational speaker Peter Tlholoe conducted a workshop on marriage at the Krugersdorp Golf Club. It was held under the banner of Mokwalo Solutions. The theme was Losing your marriage even before it starts.

Eskom almost dealt the workshop a heavy blow. There was no electricity in Krugersdorp and surrounding areas. Lights went off at around 2pm and only came back after 7.15pm. This resulted in the workshop starting later than scheduled. Eishkom!

There was a kwaito group from Kagiso that entertained the audience. The group, which enthralled the audience, has performed with the likes of Somizi Mhlongo already. It also took part in the 2010 Soccer World Cup opening ceremony. But, interestingly, I was seeing it for the very first time at the workshop. It goes by the name Mangori, whatever that means.

At face value, the theme of the workshop sounds like it was meant for those who are about to get married. Don’t despair: It was meant for both the married couples and those who are about to tie the knot. But the author’s presentation was not divided between the two groups.

The theme was captivating enough for one to want to attend. And the motivational speaker didn’t disappoint in his presentation. He was well-prepared and kept his audience in stitches with his jests. Interestingly, he didn’t read from a script.

Marriage is dynamic. And as such, there is no recipe or menu for it. And Tlholoe didn’t present a formula to the audience. What he presented were guidelines. He used simple and everyday examples to drive his point across.

Today’s married couples do no longer value marriage as our parents used to. As a result, the divorce rate amongst married couples is high. There are various factors that contribute to the above phenomenon. However, all is not lost.

It is my considered view that many married couples need to hear Tlholoe’s advice on the subject. Marriages that are on the verge of collapsing may be saved. It is my hope and prayer that the motivational speaker will hold another marriage workshop soon.
