Many of us cannot wait for the ban on walking on the beach to be lifted.
The sound of the crashing waves. The circling of the seagulls and sea sand between our toes. There is just no place like the beach.
I have often watched families walking close to where the waves run out of steam. Little children stretching their little legs to try to walk in daddy and mommy’s footprints. I can clearly see the big footprints with little footprints in them.
Children tend to follow their parents’ footprints, not just on the beach, but in life. They copy the way we talk to each other and about others. It is not just our actions but our reactions that they copy. We can fool many people in life with our public act but children watch us when the doors are locked and the curtains drawn. You and I may be good at putting our best foot forward in public but kids tend to follow the other foot.
We love to read selected Bible verses. Promises are very popular. But in the good book are some pretty harsh words also. Not many more powerful than ones related to the way adults guide children. Matthew 18:6, “But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large mill stone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea”.
Pastors, parents, teachers and peers, someone is watching you today, someone trying to walk in your footprints in public and in private.
