Not long ago, the ANC’s long-serving deputy secretary made a shocking statement … “Without the ANC, South Africa could go to a civil war”. In other words, South Africa needs the ANC more than the ANC needs the country. Wow!
It is a no-brainer that the statement is false, is it not? Clearly, it was not well thought out. If it was, then it was meant to mislead the South African voters. Is this what has become of our esteemed and honourable politicians?
The deputy secretary is a seasoned politician. So, why did she make such a shocking statement? Arrogance? The ANC is losing popularity with the voters because of poor service delivery. And it is well aware. Therefore, it is desperate to hold on to power. Hence, its leader uttered such a statement.
Since she made that statement, the ANC has said nothing. Silence means consent. That means the governing party agrees with her statement. If not, why is the party keeping quiet?
The ANC’s deputy secretary’s statement can be likened to that of “if you vote for the official opposition party DA, apartheid will come back”. Or “if you vote for the DA, you will lose your social grants”.
The deputy secretary’s statement is an attempt by the governing party to manipulate the masses to keep voting for it. The objective is to make them vote out of fear. This is unethical to say the least. I hope voters will see the statement for what it is: manipulation.
